There is nothing more exciting for a kid than their first wiggly tooth! Here are some wonderful children’s books to celebrate this milestone:
Dory Fantasmagory: Head in the Clouds – by Abby Hanlon – The Dory Fantasmagory books are always favorites in our house. Dory is a funny and feisty kindergartner who is very excited about the tooth fairy’s first visit. This is a chapter book – but like all the Dory books – it makes a terrific read-aloud for younger kids.
One Morning in Maine – by Robert McClusky – This classic Caldecott Honor book is one that I read as a kid. It’s a picture book about a little girl named Sal who has a loose tooth. I love this sweet story that highlights Maine’s rustic beauty – but some kids may find it long and wordy (a modern editor would have a field day with this book).
Throw Your Tooth on the Roof: Tooth Traditions from Around the World – by Selby Beeler and G. Brian Karas – My kids were fascinated by this non-fiction book about different losing-a-tooth traditions around the world.
Silverlicious – by Victoria Kahn – My daughter is a big fan of the Pinkalicious books. In this one, Pinkalicious loses her tooth and puts it under her pillow and hopes for a visit from the tooth fairy – only to be surprised by some other visitors like Cupid, the Easter Bunny, and a Christmas elf.
Gus Loses a Tooth – by Frank Remkiewicz – In this easy reader, Gus loses a tooth and has big plans for the money the tooth fairy leaves.
Lose Tooth – by Lola M. Schaefer – Another easy reader about losing a tooth – this one focuses on a loose tooth that won’t fall out.
I Lost My Tooth – Mo Willems – My children love the Elephant & Piggie books, and pretty much everything Mo Willems writes. This 2018 release is an easy reader about a group of squirrels. Lots of puns, wordplay and facts about teeth.
Berenstein Bears Visit the Dentist – by Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain – This Berenstein Bear book covers two teeth-related topics for little kids – losing a tooth and visiting the dentist.
