Want to feel old? Give this book to your child and tell them it is just like “The Breakfast Club”. Wait for the blank stare.
Jack (10) and I both read this last week. It’s about six very different kids who all land in detention together (sound familiar?). Yep – it’s the Nerd, the Princess, the Jock, the Screw Up, the Weirdo, and the Nobody. They are all in detention for the same vandalism incident – but no one knows who is really responsible for the crime.
Jack’s not-too-wordy review: “pretty good.” He had also never heard of “The Breakfast Club” so the plot was new to him.
My review: It was pretty good. It was fast-paced and leaves the reader guessing. It also has the valuable message of “everyone is fighting unseen battles”.
One drawback: I couldn’t look at the title without thinking of the Shaggy song.
